On November 8, members of Troop 6 hiked the 11.5 mile Long Path section of the Palisades Historical Trail in New Jersey. This section starts at Fort Lee Historical Park and runs along the top of the Palisades on the southern part of the New York - New Jersey Trail Conference's Long Path to Northern New Jersey Council's Camp Alpine. In keeping with the recent trend, there was rain during the second half of the hike. The group also made a visit to the adjacent Greater New York Council's Alpine Scout Camp. Most of the hikers will well remember Ruckman Road!
Because the Fort Lee Historical Park Visitors Center opens late (10 AM), it was decided to visit it after the hike. This was done to preserve daylight on the trail, and to try to get in as much of the hike as possible prior to the rain. Unfortunately, that plan didn't quite work out, and the group will do the Visitors Center separately in the near future.
Scouts who did the hike, and return to tour the visitors Center will earn the Palisades Historical Trail patch.
